Octyl cyanoacetate is an organic compound, a colorless liquid at room temperature with a characteristic odor. It is an important chemical intermediate widely used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and dyes, and a key raw material for the manufacture of cyanoacrylate-based adhesives (such as 502 glue) and pesticides. It is produced through the transesterification reaction of cyanoacetic acid with n-octanol, and is a functional molecule containing both cyano and ester groups.
