Diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA) is a potent aminopolycarboxylic acid chelating agent composed of a diethylenetriamine backbone and five carboxyl groups. It can form stable complexes with various metal ions (such as iron, copper, zinc, and cadmium) and is commonly used in water treatment, textile auxiliaries, the paper industry, pharmaceuticals (heavy metal detoxification), and rare earth separation. It has good water solubility, is stable over a wide pH range, and is biodegradable.
