Dimethyl malonate

Dimethyl malonate is an important organic synthesis intermediate. It is a colorless liquid obtained by esterification of malonic acid and methanol. It has wide applications in the fields of pharmaceuticals, dyes, and fragrances, and is commonly used in the synthesis of barbiturates (such as barbituric acid) and the key pharmaceutical raw material pipemidic acid. It is chemically reactive and can participate in a variety of reactions such as hydrolysis, decarboxylation, and alkylation, making it a universal reagent in organic synthesis.

Product Application

Used in pharmaceuticals and organic synthesis.

Dimethyl malonate is an important raw material for the production of pipemidic acid, a pharmaceutical ingredient. Abroad, dimethyl malonate is mainly used as a raw material in the non-ethoxymethylene process for producing pipemidic acid, reacting with orthoformate and urea to produce pipemidic acid. Currently, in my country, the vast majority of dimethyl malonate produced by relevant enterprises, except for exports, is used to produce pipemidic acid.
